I was 'contracted' to do some lineart for a motorcycle gas tank. It's only half a tank as it's for an exhibit.
If there's any interest in it, I'll be doing more lineart for this type of thing. The person who hired me takes the hard part and that's painting the tanks. I just have to draw it, which puts a lot less pressure on me (thank God)
We had discussed doing a poison ivy at first, but a few people said to tread lightly on copyright infringement. But since this piece isn't being sold, nor is it a depiction of an original character we thought what the hell? But after a few drinks in me, we all decided to do an original character.
So, here's my snow bunny on a bear skin rug.
Since the painter is going to make it more realisitic, I didn't go in and add lots of detail... I took it as a coloring book type of thing. A very simple coloring book type of thing lol.
Enjoy. Hope there's more of this in my future... yeah I'm going to say it... I need the friggin money.
Basically I was given a template of the gas tank and drew over the template to make sure the artwork would fit. That's why it looks cut off in areas.
Jon, I really tend to like the original works you make. I think that your partner may have a little difficulty reproducing the fuzz at the waist and such. unless hes just going for a cotton effect. she gorgeous. this area of art can be lucrative, also tat's. produce a book of designs and target LA, Miami, and Manhatan.
I painted cars as a kid, 4 years of votech for it. did some nice designing, but never to the level of this on a tank! I cant do minature, thats why I couldnt do anything worthwhile on that sketch thing you have on the other site. my drawings in MSP are macro, not micro. funny I still do use a spray can in MSP.

LOL I was trying to find your myspace page so I could return the favour as it were. But for the life of me I can't remember where it is!
The tank it something like 26 inches long I think... maybe more? And the thickest area I think is like 8 inches I don't know. I got the template on the computer and it was friggin huge, but the resolution was at 72 dpi, so I had to up it to 300 on a new document and start sketching on there. This painter says they can paint realism better than anything and chances are the lineart will still 'be there' but it'll look more realistic and they say they are great at painting fur... so we'll see how that all goes.
I used to want to paint cars for a living but I never got into it for a few reasons. One, you can't draw like I do, directly on a car and chances are, that's a great thing! Mainly because you'd be erasing and redrawing and it'd eventually screw up the body somehow. I also hated having to spray paint white first and then figure out what went on the white areas and what went on the unpainted areas... just screwed me up in my train of thought. I'm also not used to painting anymore. I used to love airbrushing. I did it for like 5 years and then I just stopped doing it one day. Don't know why really. I guess cost and not getting money back for the work. I should probably resurrect one of my airbrushes, find a compressor and add it to my arsenal for sketch cards and whatnot. Who knows. I might do that one day if I get some people paying me again.
God willing.
I'd like to see the designs you used to do if you still have any.
The tats thing... I'm still on the fence about. I used to design tattoos for people but never really went anywhere with it. People wanted tribal art but they also wanted a pinup done within it. Meh... perhaps I'll add that shortly to my arsenal of things I do. Anything to make a few bucks, ya know? LOL
Thanks for the insight on the painting, the props on the work and the info about your past working on cars man! That's hella awesome to hear. We'll have to talk more about that sometime.
Jon, this is gorgeous! I think this is my new favorite piece of your work!
I'd love to see more in this style. I know you said you didn't add much detail work because of the painter; I think that helped to keep it simple, in terms of linework (hope you understand I'm using the word 'simple' as a positive, not a negative).
